“The Morning Room is adjacent to the Library and occupies the southern corner of the original house. The room was originally designed by Robert Mylne as a Parlour. Interesting the west end of the room used to have a servants’ staircase which extended from the basement to the roof. At some time, probably by Archibald Howley, the staircase was demolished and moved into the South Wing, enabling the Parlor to be extended. From that time until 1930 the room seems to have been used as a Morning Room. A morning room is a living room that derives it’s name from getting the sunlight come through in the morning, because of east facing windows.”
